I’m eligible – now what?

Choose your campus for information on your next steps for FWS:

Morgantown Campus

Federal Work Study positions for the upcoming academic year become available for application beginning June 1 each year.

After accepting work study on STAR:

  1. Log into MountaineerTRAK located on the top right of this page;
  2. Upload your available work schedule or a copy of your class schedule to your MountaineerTRAK profile;
  3. Upload a resume to your MountaineerTRAK profile – if you need assistance creating a resume, contact Career Services at 304-293-2221. Don’t forget to include any community service or high school jobs (such as babysitting, lawn care etc);
  4. Apply for up to three FWS jobs (make your selection from FWS jobs only). The hiring supervisor for the job(s) you apply for will review the information you submit through MountaineerTRAK and contact you, generally within 2 to 3 weeks after you apply asking for an interview or offering you the position.
  5. Monitor your student MIX email. Once you are hired, you will receive a notification through your MIX email providing specific details on your position.
  6. Process for payroll.

Beckley Campus

After accepting work study on STAR:

  1. Review Student Job Openings to determine what Federal Work Study positions interest you.
  2. Contact the department to request the “Student Employment Work Authorization” form.
  3. Visit the Financial Aid Office. They will review and sign the form before you move on to the next step.
  4. Take the form to the Human Resources Office for processing and authorization.
  5. Once Human Resources has completed the form, return to the department to provide them with the finalized version.

Keyser Campus

After accepting work study on STAR:

  • All work study assignments will be made in person.
  • Students who accept Federal Work Study must pick up their authorization form during Student Services Days or the first 21 days of the semester at the Enrollment Services Office. Office hours are from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
  • Any student participating in the program who is not already on payroll with the college will need to complete the necessary paperwork for payroll prior to working. The payroll office is located in the Administration Building and will also be available during Student Services Days. If you have additional questions regarding the payroll process you may contact the Payroll office at PSC-FinAid@mail.wvu.edu or 304-788-6829.
